IRS Q2 2010
Old trends stay put; Grievances abound

The latest Indian Readership Survey (IRS) figures are out creating a stir amongst the print players yet again with the various claims and counterclaims as publications fight it out to make their way to the top. The IRS data was released by the Media Research Users’ Council (MRUC) and it’s research partner Hansa Research on August 23 2010.

Radio, finally being heard...

Ten days after India celebrated its 64th Independence, the FM radio industry heaved a sigh of relief as the Copyright Board finally unburdened them of the massive music royalty fees that they have been paying for so long. According to the Copyright Board order, two per cent of net advertising earnings of each FM station accruing from the radio business shall be set apart as compensation to all music providers. According to industry sources, this move will reduce the music royalty burden of the radio industry from around ` 120 crores to about ` 20 crores which will be a massive boost to the viability of FM radio stations, especially the ones in tier II and III towns.
