Porter Prize set to honour  strategic acumen of corporates

Porter Prize, the coveted corporate awards which recognize the strategic acumen of corporates in India, will be held on September 26, 2014 in New Delhi. First held in India in 2012, the central idea of the Porter Prize is to propel companies to compete on the basis of value creation, innovation and strategy. The annual award, supported by Institute for Competitiveness (India), is named after Michael E Porter, Professor at Harvard Business School and considered to be the father of modern strategy field.

 

With CXOs in attendance, the evening proceedings will comprise panels on strategy, shared value along with the award ceremony. Apart from awarding the best companies, Porter Prize also assists the participating companies to recognize their own strengths and get a deeper hold on their strategy and methods to enhance it. Says Dr Amit Kapoor, Honorary Chairman of the India Council on Competitiveness, “India stands for a plethora of innovative strategies and Porter Prize has been a front-runner to recognize the strategies that have defined the market space. We are elated to continue awarding and assisting the companies with the best strategies in India.”

 

Process of Selection

The Porter Prize award has a robust three-stage process of making an application, strategy audit and jury evaluation.

Stage I: Filling in the application form

Stage II: Short listing of the companies and conducting the strategy audits which is done by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. This involves meeting the CEO and his immediate team. Stage III: The results are presented to the jury members and winners are decided. 

 

The esteemed jury panel of Porter Prize 2014 includes Mark Kramer, MD and Founder, FSG, Christians Ketels, Principal Associate, Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard Business School, Tripurari Sharan, DG, Doordarshan & Member of the Board, MDI, Gurgaon, Sukumar Ranganathan, Editor, Mint, Amit Kapoor, President & CEO, India Council on Competitiveness, AP Pairigi, Director, Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd, and Wilfried Aulbur, President & CEO, Roland Berger.

 

Past Winners

In 2013, GroupM, Narayana Health, Uninor, Sealed Air, Apollo Gleneagles, Godrej and Rallis India Limited received the ‘Porter Prize’ award while MakeMy Trip, Mahindra Finance, HDFC Life, Vaatsalya, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Lombard & Mother Diary were the recipients of the  award in 2012.

 

India’s National Competitiveness Forum

India Council on Competitiveness will also host the National Competitiveness Forum (NCF) on the same day. The council strives to work with top private sector leaders, renowned thinkers and government leaders to assess the state of the nation’s competitiveness, and explore pressing and emerging issues and is chaired by Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Partner & CEO, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

 

Expressing their views about strategy, innovation and services will be eminent speakers from across the corporate strata. The speaker line-up includes Ray O. Johnson, CTO, Lockheed Martin, Vinay Hebber, MD, HBR, Asia Pacific, Deborah L. Wince-Smith, President and CEO, US Council on Competitiveness, Gerd Hoefner, Managing Director and CEO, Siemens Technology India, Pirojshaw Sarkari, CEO, Mahindra Logistics, William C. Bates, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff, US Council on Competitiveness and Mark Goyder, Founder Director of Tomorrow’s Company.
