Six years ago, SBI Life Insurance launched an initiative named, ‘Thanks‑A‑Dot’ with a simple but powerful goal: to make breast health a topic women could talk about openly. What began as awareness sessions and educational outreach has steadily grown into a multi-faceted campaign, blending tactile learning, digital engagement, and community initiatives.
In 2023, the campaign introduced the ‘Hug of Life’ hot-water bag, a unique tool designed with 3D lumps so women could safely practice self-breast examinations at home. Over time, the initiative reached thousands of women across India, from urban offices to community groups, normalising conversations that were once taboo and emphasizing the life-saving impact of early detection.
This year, the campaign reached a historic milestone with a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD mosaic made of 1,191 Hug of Life bags, bringing visibility and urgency to the cause. An event was organized to mark this achievement, where IMPACT Magazine had the opportunity to speak directly with Mahima Chaudhry, who serves as the face of the initiative. Reflecting on her journey, she said, “The more we talk about breast examination, the more awareness we create, the less taboo it becomes. Women should educate themselves, self-examine, and teach each other.”
