Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, has announced plans to leave the network in June 2027, ending a 43-year association with the broadcaster.
In a statement shared by CNN, Amanpour said she had reached the decision after months of consideration. “After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” she said.
Amanpour joined CNN in 1983 as an entry-level assistant on the international assignment desk at the network’s Atlanta headquarters. She later worked as a reporter at its New York bureau before establishing herself as one of its prominent international correspondents. Over the course of her career, Amanpour has reported extensively on international conflicts and political developments, interviewing world leaders and other influential figures. She currently anchors Amanpour, CNN International’s flagship global affairs programme, and hosts The Amanpour Hour.
Her departure announcement comes weeks after Skydance completed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, bringing CNN and CBS News under common ownership.
