Cipla has announced a leadership transition, with Umang Vohra stepping down as Managing Director and Global Chief Executive Officer, bringing to a close a decade-long stint at the top of the drugmaker.
Achin Gupta has taken over as MD and GCEO with effect from 01, April, 2026 for a five-year term. Gupta, who was serving as global chief operating officer, had been named MD and GCEO designate earlier this year, effective 01, January, 2026.
Gupta succeeds Vohra, who assumed the top role in 2016 and led the company through a phase of strategic repositioning and growth.
In a LinkedIn post, Vohra expressed gratitude for his time at the company, highlighting the people, purpose and experiences that shaped his leadership.
Vohra joined Cipla in 2015 as global chief financial and strategy officer before being elevated to MD and GCEO a year later. Prior to that, he spent nearly 14 years at Dr Reddy's Laboratories and earlier held roles at Eicher Motors and PepsiCo.
