Essel Group Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra and his brothers have announced the establishment of Shri Nand Kishore Goenka University in Agroha, Hisar, in memory of their father, the late Shri Nand Kishore Goenka.
The university will be developed on 32 acres of family-owned land with an investment of nearly ₹100 crore. The institution will focus on social service and community welfare, with a specialised curriculum centred on philanthropy and giving back to society. The Goenka family has signed an agreement with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, to establish the university.
The announcement was made in Agroha following the last rites of Shri Nand Kishore Goenka, who passed away in Mumbai on 13 July at the age of 96. The ceremony was attended by family members, well-wishers and political leaders, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences in a letter to the family.
The Prime Minister stated, “He not only enriched the family’s business traditions but also fulfilled his responsibilities toward society with complete sincerity. His life, inspired by his service to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and guided by the ideals of organization and ‘Nation First’ stood as an example of simplicity and public welfare. I consider it my privilege to have had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions. His warmth and gracious nature will always remain in my memory. His passing is an irreparable loss to society.”
The Goenka family has also organised daily Shanti Baithaks in Hisar, with a Rasam Pagdi ceremony scheduled for 26 July, to honour Shri Nand Kishore Goenka's legacy of philanthropy and community service.
