Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has once again highlighted its commitment to road safety through a recent campaign in Tiruvallur. The initiative, which took place at Dharmamurthi Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty’s Higher Secondary School, engaged over 2,500 students and staff members.
The campaign focused on educating young people about road safety with the goal of reducing future road accidents. By targeting children and young adults, HMSI aims to instil lasting habits of responsible road use. The company regularly conducts interactive road safety awareness programmes across schools, colleges, and various institutions.
Participants in the campaign took part in several activities designed to improve their understanding of road safety. These included theoretical sessions on safe riding practices, danger prediction training, road safety quizzes, helmet awareness programmes, and practical Riding Trainer sessions.
HMSI appreciates the collaboration with Dharmamurthi Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty’s Higher Secondary School, which contributed to the success of the event. This partnership underscores a mutual commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing traffic accidents.
Since its establishment, HMSI has educated nearly 300,000 people in Tamil Nadu about responsible road use and safe riding practices. The company’s road safety initiatives are aligned with its global vision of achieving zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2050, as well as the Government of India’s objective to halve road fatalities by 2030.
A key part of HMSI’s strategy involves instilling a positive attitude towards road safety in children, with the aim of nurturing a culture of safety and creating future road safety ambassadors. This approach is intended to contribute to a safer society.
HMSI operates 10 traffic training parks and 6 Safety Driving Education Centres across India, where skilled instructors conduct daily programmes. These initiatives have reached over 7.5 million individuals. The road safety programme features a range of educational activities:
- Theoretical Learning: Sessions on road signs and markings, driving duties, riding gear, and safe riding practices.
- Practical Learning: Use of a virtual riding simulator to experience potential road hazards.
- Interactive Sessions: Danger prediction training (Kiken Yosoku Training) to enhance awareness and safe driving behaviour.
- Skill Enhancement: Existing riders refined their skills through activities such as slow riding and manoeuvring on narrow planks.
