McDonald’s India (West and South) is taking an unconventional route this International Fries Day by putting its Chief Financial Officer at the centre of a new advertising campaign. In the promotional film conceptualised by DDB Mudra, the company’s CFO is seen visibly unsettled as he grapples with the implications of giving away fries.
The spot shows him poring over figures, questioning the scale of the giveaway, but ultimately conceding to what the brand describes as an undeniable public fondness. “Some decisions are just made for the love of the iconic fries,” the voiceover explains. “Once the fry lights go green, there’s no turning back."
Rather than using a traditional celebrity or brand ambassador, the campaign features the CFO himself to bring a self-aware and humorous angle to the promotion. It plays on the tension between finance and marketing decisions, particularly when offering high-demand items at no cost.
The campaign also introduces a range of ‘Fries personalities’—from ‘Fries Thieves’ and ‘Fries Experimenters’ to ‘Fries Hunters’—highlighting familiar behaviour among customers.
As part of the initiative, McDonald’s will offer free fries with the first 250 orders at all outlets in West and South India on 11 July 2025. The offer is being run in association with McCain.
