Nitori, Japan's largest furniture and home furnishing retailer, has officially opened its first store in India at R City Mall, Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Spanning 32,000 sq. ft., the new store marks the brand's entry into India’s $23.9 billion home furnishings market (Ken Research), offering a wide range of premium home furniture and decor at affordable prices.
This launch is part of Nitori's ambitious global expansion strategy, which aims to reach 3,000 stores worldwide by 2032. The inaugural event at the 1.2 million sq. ft. R City Mall, which hosts over 350 premium brands and attracts 1 million visitors monthly, gave the store significant visibility. The celebrations began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a cultural program and a showcase of Nitori’s diverse product range.
Masanori Takeda, Executive Vice President in charge of Overseas Businesses at Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd., expressed his excitement about the launch. He said, “This store is significant as it marks our entry into the Indian market, an important one for us. It aligns with our mission to enrich the homes of people worldwide, catering to the unique needs of Indian homes. We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for customers seeking premium quality.”
The Nitori store at R City offers a wide variety of home furnishing products, from sofas, dining tables, and kitchen cabinets to beds, curtains, carpets, bedding, and dishes, all under one roof.
Nitori Group plans to expand rapidly, with a goal of opening 280 stores by 2032. The brand is particularly focused on growing its presence in Asia, aiming to establish around 100 stores outside Japan by the end of FY2024. Though the company has not disclosed specific plans for its Indian division, this first store in Mumbai sets the stage for future growth.
