Pratilipi’s microdrama studio Double Tap Films has signed a licensing agreement with TikTok to distribute 21 original Indian microdrama series across the United States, Canada, Brazil and Japan.
The one-year non-exclusive agreement, structured on a monthly revenue-share model, marks the studio’s first international content distribution deal and the first time an Indian microdrama studio has brought Indian-language intellectual property to TikTok’s global audience.
Under the partnership, the shows will stream in their original Hindi audio with subtitles tailored to each market. The titles are drawn from Double Tap Films’ catalogue of more than 150 microdramas adapted from stories validated through Pratilipi’s readership ecosystem, which includes over 20 million stories, 2 million authors and 800 million monthly reads across 12 Indian languages.
Sharlton Menezes, Vice President IP & Key Partnerships, Pratilipi & Double Tap Films, said, “This deal with TikTok is the first proof point of what we set out to build: a studio whose IP doesn’t stop at India’s borders. Our writers, actors, and producers are drawing from something real and Indian, and the world is responding to that. This is what taking Indian IP global looks like.”
Produced in a vertical 9:16 format using Indian talent, the slate includes titles such as Avnika Ki Shaadi, Apavitra and CEO Se Romeo. The company said its production model relies on adapting pre-validated story IP rather than commissioning original concepts, enabling content creation at significantly lower costs than traditional OTT formats.
The TikTok agreement will initially function as a pilot to assess audience response across both diaspora and international viewers. Based on market performance, Double Tap Films plans to expand the partnership with additional titles and new territories in future phases.
