With substance abuse increasingly affecting younger age groups and spreading into schools and homes, Mathrubhumi has launched a short film aimed at helping parents recognise and respond to signs of drug use in children.
Titled 'Sadhanam Kayyilundo' and featuring actor Roshan Mathew, the film seeks to provide parents with information on identifying warning signs of drug use, understanding slang or code words, monitoring financial transactions, and learning the cost of commonly used substances.
Substance abuse in children and adolescents is no longer limited to certain visible social groups. Many young individuals now blend into everyday environments, wearing school uniforms or office clothes, making early detection by parents and teachers more difficult.
Mathrubhumi’s initiative moves away from approaches based on punishment or suspicion, focusing instead on awareness and education.
MV Shreyams Kumar, Managing Director, Mathrubhumi, said, “Through the short film ‘Sadhanam Kayyilundo’, starring young film star Roshan Mathew, Mathrubhumi has tried to bring valuable knowledge like code words used by children in relation to drugs, tips for identifying children using drugs, the price of drugs, and monitoring of money transactions to parents in an interesting way. The film empowers parents to guide their children effectively without direct confrontation."
The short film was produced for Mathrubhumi by Maithri Advertising Works.
The project aims to equip parents with practical knowledge to prevent and address drug use among young people.
