Sanghyun Lee has joined OpenAI as Head of Asia Pacific, Global Affairs.
In his new role, Lee will be based in Singapore and will lead public policy engagement and strategic partnerships across the Asia Pacific region. His mandate includes supporting the development and adoption of AI in a responsible and inclusive manner.
Sharing more on his appointment, Lee said in a social media post: “I’ve spent much of my career at the intersection of technology, public policy, and trust. That experience has shaped how I think about moments like this. When a technology is as powerful as AI, progress is not only about innovation. It is also about how thoughtfully we engage with governments, institutions, and communities to help ensure its benefits are shared broadly and responsibly. That is a big part of why this next chapter feels so meaningful to me. I’ve seen firsthand how ChatGPT, and OpenAI’s broader work, are expanding access to powerful AI tools around the world. Asia Pacific will play an important role in shaping how AI is adopted, governed, and trusted. I’m honored to help contribute to that work.”
