Rajesh Ramaswamy, widely known as Ramsam, has stepped down from The Script Room, the creative collective he co-founded, as he transitions into a full-time role as an independent film director and creative professional.
Announcing the move via LinkedIn, Ramaswamy acknowledged the unconventional nature of the decision, especially given his role in building the company. He described the shift as a conscious attempt to realign his focus towards direction and long-form storytelling, even as he admitted to the uncertainties that come with it.
The move follows a seven-year journey with The Script Room, which Ramaswamy co-founded in 2019 alongside Ayyappan Raj. Over this period, the company built a diverse body of work spanning advertising, branded films, web series, and short-format content, while collaborating with agencies, filmmakers, and emerging creative talent.
Reflecting on his stint, Rajesh Ramaswamy, former co-founder of The Script Room mentioned, “If I were to rewind the last 7 years of my life, I wouldn’t want to change a thing. Including the bummers, because it was compensated by insane fun, and a great degree of highs. Crazy freedom, a bunch of awesome people to work and hang out with. I made a short film, wrote a web series, attempted a lot of screenplays, met many inspiring people, young and old, made truckloads of ads, even collaborated with agencies, printed visiting cards that we hardly distributed, created an awesome website that we forgot to update often, wrote a bunch of stupid posts to keep our Instagram profile alive.” He further added, “I got to work with some of the top directors and some young upcoming ones and learnt a lot from them, dealt with impossible deadlines and bizarre briefs, also inspiring ones, where some clients placed a lot of trust in us, became good friends.”
He also mentioned that the team made a 30-minute brand film and won several awards but he forgot to pick up a few. He characterised the experience as creatively fulfilling, marked by experimentation, collaborations, and a wide range of projects across formats.
Before launching The Script Room, Ramaswamy spent over two decades with MullenLowe Lintas Group, where he served as executive director, shaping several campaigns and creative mandates over the years.
While he exits an operational role, The Script Room will continue under its existing team, with a mix of long-time collaborators and new talent expected to steer its next phase of growth.
Ramaswamy has indicated that he is now open to projects as an independent director and creative, marking a shift from agency leadership to a more focused storytelling practice.
