Third Eye Distillery, the makers of Stranger & Sons Gin, has announced its latest venture into the whiskey market with Otherside Subcontinental Whiskey. This new spirit is designed For, Of, & By The Subcontinent, capturing the essence of India’s climate and geography in a bottle.
The distillery has garnered attention worldwide for its gin, which won a Gold Outstanding medal at the IWSC (UK) in 2020, positioning Indian spirits on the global stage. The same year marked the rise of a ‘gin revolution’, with Stranger & Sons leading the way in the premiumisation of spirits in India. Now, Third Eye Distillery is turning its focus to whiskey, India’s largest spirits category.
Otherside Subcontinental Whiskey is aged across India’s tropical belt, where extreme weather conditions—relentless heat, monsoons, and shifting seasons—help create a spirit with unique depth, intensity, and identity. The whiskey’s profile is further enhanced by a Solera Finish in charred ex-bourbon barrels, adding layers of complexity and depth to the flavour.
“This whiskey’s distinctiveness breaks the monotony of Scotch and Scotch-like brands, offering a fresh perspective on a timeless spirit,” the distillery said in a statement.
“This isn’t Scotch, it’s not Bourbon, and it’s definitely not business as usual. The result? A spirit as dynamic and unique as the country itself,” it added.
Rahul Mehra, CEO and Co-founder of Third Eye Distillery, shared his thoughts on the significance of this launch: “Whiskey is a crowded room. The impact of our climate, geography, and aging makes this a whiskey that can only come from here, redefining India’s provenance in whiskey making. For too long, Scots have set rules for whiskey and it’s about time India starts writing its own story. We have taken the time to create a whiskey that truly puts India front and centre—not just in name, but in representation.”
Otherside Subcontinental Whiskey is not just about labels or legacy, but about an experience: “It’s as much about what’s in the glass, as it is about where it can take you. This is a whiskey that goes with where you go—drink it your way, because that’s the only way that matters.”
