Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple’s CEO, handing the leadership of the company to John Ternus, currently Senior Vice President, Hardware Engineering.
Effective September 1, Cook will take on the role of Executive Chairman, marking the end of his tenure as CEO, a position he has held since 2011. He previously served as Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.
In a post marking his final day as CEO, Cook wrote, “Sending lots of love to the Apple community on my last day as CEO. My title changes tomorrow, but the love I have for the Apple community never will. Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. My gratitude is endless, and I’m excited for the next chapter!”
Ternus has led Apple’s hardware engineering teams behind products including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods and Apple Vision Pro. Before joining Apple, he worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems.
Cook announced his decision to step down in April, describing the CEO role as 'the best job in the world' and praising Ternus as a “brilliant engineer and thinker” who has spent 25 years building Apple products.
