Uber has launched Uber Shikara, allowing travellers to pre-book boat rides on the scenic Dal Lake through the Uber app. This limited-time service aims to enhance the experience for visitors during the busy holiday season, ensuring seamless and stress-free travel in one of India’s most picturesque regions.
The initiative is part of Uber’s ongoing commitment to providing convenient mobility options. The Shikara rides, which can be booked in advance, come with no additional charges for the rider; the full amount goes directly to the local Shikara drivers, helping create economic opportunities for the region’s grassroots tourism workers. Each ride is available for 1 hour and can accommodate up to four passengers, with bookings available between 12 hours and 15 days in advance.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India & South Asia, commented, “Uber Shikara is our way of merging technology with tradition, making it easier for travellers to experience the beauty of Dal Lake. We're thrilled to offer this iconic experience and support local tourism in Kashmir.”
Uber Shikara also offers the convenience of pre-booking through Uber Reserve, ensuring that visitors can plan their rides in advance, allowing them to enjoy Dal Lake without any last-minute hassles. Uber has also introduced trip insurance for all Shikara rides, providing travellers with added peace of mind during their journey.
