Sometimes, all it takes to bring someone home is a tradition they have shared for years. vivo India explores this emotional pull in its Diwali campaign, #JoyOfHomecoming, created in collaboration with Dentsu Creative – Webchutney. Rooted in the brand’s ‘Live the Joy’ philosophy, the film celebrates the family rituals and shared memories that make the festival special, even as life takes people away from home.
The story follows Kabir, a young professional living in Dubai who is unable to return home for Diwali. On Choti Diwali, his childhood friends surprise his mother with a festive celebration. As Kabir watches the moments unfold, he notices an unlit diya — the one he and his mother have traditionally lit together. The memory prompts him to return home and celebrate the festival with her, bringing the campaign’s central thought to life.
Through this simple ritual, vivo highlights how familiar customs can carry a deep sense of belonging. Whether it is lighting a diya, preparing a favourite festive dish or following a family tradition, these moments connect generations and retain their meaning across distances. The film also acknowledges the role friends play in keeping these bonds alive, creating new memories while helping families preserve old ones.
Building on vivo’s longstanding #JoyOfHomecoming platform, the campaign explores the difference between staying connected and being physically present. While technology allows people to share moments across distances, the film suggests that the joy of experiencing them together remains irreplaceable.
“Every year, through #JoyOfHomecoming, we celebrate the connections and traditions that make Diwali and the journey home so meaningful. As young people pursue their aspirations and build lives away from home, family traditions continue to draw them back to the people they love. This year’s campaign celebrates the family bonds and traditions that draw us home, while recognising the friends who help us stay connected to the people we love. Aligned with our philosophy of ‘Live the Joy’, we hope the campaign inspires people to embrace the relationships that matter and cherish the moments of togetherness that make festivals truly special,” said Geetaj Channana, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, vivo India.
Surjo Dutt, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Creative Officer, Dentsu Creative – Webchutney, said, “Diwali is about being together. But in a world where ambition and opportunity can take us far from home, being connected and being together aren’t always the same thing. We explored this thought through a simple, heartwarming story of friendship and family. What unfolds is a reminder that technology can do more than help us capture and share moments. It can bring us closer to the people and emotions that matter most. We believe it’s not just about capturing life as it happens, but about experiencing the joy that makes life meaningful. And sometimes, a little moment on a screen can make you realise what truly matters beyond it.”
