World Economic Mobility Limited (WEML) is set to launch a new ride-hailing app called ‘NEMBHARAT’ that will eliminate driver commissions and passenger surge pricing.
The launch arrives at a time when the Indian transport sector is facing repeated driver unrest over low earnings and passenger complaints over safety, unpredictable fares and lack of accountability. Governed by the Narayanihiti Trust, the service will use a prepaid, cashless system. The business model will allow drivers to keep their full earning while providing riders with fixed fares.
“Our platform will address the lack of income predictability for gig workers,” said Deepak K Shah, Director and CEO, WEML. He described the app as a national transport network built to provide clear details on driver pay and passenger costs.
The platform will integrate different modes of transport — including cabs and auto-rickshaws — under standard safety rules. Dr Kanchi Sharma, Director and COO, WEML, noted that the system aligns with Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) guidelines. “Which means it will act as a tool to balance workforce standards with consumer protection laws,” she added.
By removing the subscription and commission layer, NEMBHARAT promises to offer a more stable environment for both fleet owners and individual drivers.
