WhatsApp is launching public installations at Connaught Place, New Delhi, on 7 and 8 June as part of its ongoing global campaign on privacy titled "Not Even WhatsApp." The installations aim to illustrate the platform’s end-to-end encryption feature, which ensures that no one outside of a conversation, not even WhatsApp, can access personal messages.
The New Delhi installation is part of a coordinated global rollout across four cities: New Delhi, London, New York, and São Paulo. The installations will feature a range of experiences, including interactive structures, privacy mirrors, quiet zones for breaks, and designated private spaces in public areas.
These elements are intended to reflect WhatsApp’s stated focus on digital privacy in physical form. They also aim to demonstrate the concept of private communication in public settings.
Vivian Odior, Head of WhatsApp Marketing, said: “We hope that anyone who gets to experience these activations can relate to the everyday importance of privacy in real life and in your online conversations.”
The public installations are accompanied by a 60-second TV advertisement, part of the broader "Not Even WhatsApp" campaign. The film features voiceovers by Aamir Khan in both Hindi and English and was filmed at locations across Delhi, including the Yamuna riverbanks and Chandni Chowk. The ad presents WhatsApp’s perspective on the role of encryption in protecting personal messages.
In conjunction with the campaign, WhatsApp is promoting its Privacy Checkup feature within the app. This feature consolidates various privacy settings, including options to manage group invites, block unknown callers, and control who can contact the user.
The “Not Even WhatsApp” campaign will continue across India, the US, the UK, Brazil, and Mexico, spanning television, digital, online video, audio, and outdoor formats. In India, the campaign is currently active in 16 states, including Delhi, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
