YouTube has introduced a lower-cost subscription plan in India, Premium Lite, priced at ₹89 per month. The plan allows users to watch most videos without advertisements across phones, laptops and televisions.
In an official blog post, the company said, “Today we'll begin expanding our Premium Lite pilot to users in India. Premium Lite gives viewers a new, more affordable way to enjoy most videos on YouTube ad-free for ₹89 per month.”
The membership excludes several features available under the standard Premium plan. While advertisements will be removed from most long-form videos, they will continue to appear on YouTube Shorts, music content, and during search or browsing. Offline downloads, background play and ad-free music via YouTube Music are not included.
“YouTube Music and Premium, and the expansion of Premium Lite, also continue to create additional revenue opportunities for our creators and partners,” the platform added.
The move is part of YouTube’s efforts to grow subscription revenue in India. Globally, YouTube Music and Premium together have more than 125 million subscribers, including trial users.
Industry analysts note that Premium Lite could expand YouTube’s subscriber base, while advertisers may have to adjust as more users opt for ad-free plans.
The phased rollout has begun and the new tier is expected to be available across India in the coming weeks.
