Zomato, India’s leading online food delivery platform, has launched a new feature called “Recommendations from Friends” to help users discover restaurants and dishes based on personalised suggestions from their friends. Available in the latest version of the Zomato app, the feature was rolled out nationwide last week to enhance food discovery and make ordering more relatable and enjoyable.
Rakesh Ranjan, CEO of Food Delivery at Zomato, commented, “The new feature will allow our customers to make food choices based on their friends’ recommendations, adding a more personal touch to the discovery process. Most importantly, users will have full control over the recommendations they share and receive, ensuring privacy is never compromised.”
To use the feature, customers can grant access to their contacts on the Zomato app, and customise who they want recommendations from. They can also decide which restaurants they wish to recommend.
Managing Shared Recommendations:
- Users can edit or disable their shared recommendations via the “Manage recommendations” option in the profile page.
- Order history and frequency are not shared with friends.
- Only friends with access to the customer’s contact details can see their recommendations.
- Recommended restaurants must have ratings of 4 or 5 stars.
Managing Received Recommendations:
- Users can select which friends they wish to receive recommendations from and edit this anytime.
- The feature can be turned off entirely if the user prefers not to receive recommendations from friends.
Zomato’s new feature adds a social element to food discovery, allowing users to benefit from trusted suggestions while ensuring privacy is fully respected.
