LOVE AT FIRST EMAIL

Make some money and blush while you are at it! The subtle whiff of mild romance in the air at workplace brings a dramatic change in one’s productive performance at work and there are no two ways about it.
Dating a colleague has been frowned upon by many over the years and yet it’s fascinating that a hefty percentage of people who meet at work end up in a serious relationship or a hook up. Well, why not? Office is a place where one doesn’t get swayed only by looks or personality of the opposite sex, but also by more important attributes like IQ, leadership, designation and future prospects. Well, over a staggering 30% of employees have confessed to have romanced their colleague at some point of time in their career.

But before one acts up on the restless butterflies in their stomach, they should gauge the underlying risks attached to their romantic endeavours. Not only the inherent professionalism might get hampered, but also personal disputes can affect workplace competitiveness and expectations may not be met both personally and professionally by the couple.
Another dreary threat is when all a couple lands up doing is talk about work. Imagine a couple working in a bank who discuss interest rates throughout the day at work, inflation at the dinner table and eventually bond yields between the sheets!
Nevertheless, though there is no legal mandate about not dating your colleague, boss or subordinate in India, it should be avoided as much as possible. Only because one spends more time with a specific person or has an equal hatred for their boss or is most productive as a professional team, it does not mean that they will also be able to handle and manage the game of life in an equally graceful and compatible way.
A work life balance is the most important thing in any person’s life and if the lines between personal life and professional life starts getting blurry because of one’s emotions for the opposite sex, it’s time to say bye with a heavy heart to one of them.
But it’s easier said than done, a longing heart can’t be kept away from cupid, no wonder Romeos hate WFH!
