Cannes Lions 2026: India signs off with 5 metals; fails to bag Gold and Grand Prix

India's hopes of a late resurgence at Cannes Lions 2026 slipped away, with no win across the categories announced on the fifth, and final, day of the festival. This extended India’s disappointing run after a blank Day 3 and 4, leaving its overall tally frozen at five Lions—two Silver and three Bronze.

On Day 5 of the festival, winners were announced across four categories: Film, Sustainable Development Goals, Dan Wieden Titanium Lions, and Glass: The Lion for Change.

Out of these, India had shortlisted entries in two categories: two in Film, and one in Sustainable Development Goals.

‘Everybody Loves a Good Fight’ for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) by Enormous, Mumbai, was shortlisted in the Film category. ‘Baatan Hi Baatan Mein (Love in a Few Words)’ for WhatsApp by Fundamental, Mumbai, also scored a shortlist in the same category.

India’s sole shortlisted entry in the Sustainable Development Goals category was ‘Mothers of Courage – Shifting Societal Norms, One Conversation at a Time’ for Shiksha Chaupal, submitted by Mantra Social Services, Bangalore and ShikshaLokam.

None of these shortlists converted into a win, shattering hopes of late redemption. In 2025, India had received one shortlist each in Film, Sustainable Development Goals and Dan Wieden Titanium Lions categories, which converted into one metal.

With consecutive winless days, India’s campaign struggled to gather momentum, turning what started as a modest showing into one of its most underwhelming performances at the festival in two decades. The country opened its account on Day 1 with four metals—two Silver Lions and two Bronze Lions—but failed to build significantly on that start. On Day 2, India managed to add only one more Bronze Lion to its tally, taking its overall count to five metals.

On the first day, Leo India’s The Unofficial Official Sound of F1 for Sting (PepsiCo) bagged a Silver Lion in the Audio & Radio category. Colgate’s Indianis Dentris by The Refinery Mumbai and Brand David Communications won a Silver Lion, and Ogilvy India’s Renu vs The City for St. Jude India ChildCare Centres bagged a Bronze Lion in the Health & Wellness category. Lastly, Tata 1mg’s Sawaal Uthao campaign by Humour Me secured a Bronze Lion in the Pharma category.

On the second day, TBWA\Lintas’ Don’t Look Up for Steadfast’s Fake Money Detector won a Bronze Lion in the Film Craft category.

India did not win any metal on the third, fourth and fifth days.

Last year, India had delivered a standout performance, bagging 32 metals—9 Gold, 9 Silver, 13 Bronze, and even a Grand Prix. This year, however, the momentum did not continue. Not only did India secure fewer metals, but it also recorded significantly lesser shortlists compared to the past few years.

With the benchmark now firmly established, the focus will shift to how India regains its momentum in the coming years.
