‘Wanted to build emotional relevance’: Anmol Sahai Mathuur on MARS Cosmetics’ new campaign

Beauty storytelling has often revolved around appearances, but the moments that make people reach out for makeup are rarely just about how they look. They are about how they feel—a first day at college, a career milestone, a new chapter in life, or simply the confidence to show up as oneself. It is this emotional territory that MARS Cosmetics explores with its latest campaign ‘#LivingTheMARSLife’, which is built around the thought ‘Har life ke bahar, ek life hoti hai’.

For Anmol Sahai Mathuur, Vice President – Marketing, MARS Cosmetics, the campaign marks an important evolution in the brand’s journey. “Over the years, MARS has built strong product credibility through innovation, quality and accessibility. But now, the next step is to build emotional relevance. We wanted consumers to connect with what MARS stands for, not just with what MARS sells,” he says.

Watch the full interview here:

The campaign, featuring actor Fatima Sana Shaikh, and creators Aastha Shah and Anshika Pandey, moves away from conventional beauty narratives and instead focuses on confidence as something that changes across different phases of life. Featuring stories around a college student, a young professional and a married woman, ‘LivingTheMARSLife’ highlights how makeup becomes a tool for self-expression rather than just a beauty product.

The campaign’s storytelling approach and casting reflect MARS Cosmetics’ larger philosophy of choosing relevance over reach. As the creator ecosystem continues to be an important part of the brand’s marketing strategy, Mathuur believes authenticity matters more than follower counts. “It is not simply about working with creators who have the biggest reach. It is about finding the right voices that align with the brand and can communicate authentically,” he says.

This emphasis on relevance and genuine connection has also influenced how MARS Cosmetics thinks about the wider marketing ecosystem. The brand’s approach is built around creating cohesive consumer experiences, where creators, content, and online and offline commerce work together. Stressing on the reason behind this integrated approach, Mathuur says, “Today’s beauty consumers don’t follow a linear journey. They might discover a campaign on Instagram, watch a creator review on YouTube and eventually purchase through retail or e-commerce.”

Beyond driving discovery and conversion, this integrated ecosystem plays a larger role in shaping how consumers perceive the brand. In a category where new launches and trends emerge constantly, Mathuur believes the ability to create meaningful connections is what ultimately sets a brand apart. “Differentiation today isn’t just about launching a new product. It is about building a brand with a clear point of view,” he concludes.
