The Election Commission of India has roped in popular animated character Chhota Bheem to drive voter awareness and participation in Howrah district, as part of its outreach efforts ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. The initiative aims to make the electoral process more inclusive, engaging and accessible—particularly for young and first-time voters.
The campaign carries the slogan ‘Chunav Ka Parv, Paschim Bengal Ka Garv’, encouraging citizens to participate in large numbers.
Polling for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, 2026, with counting scheduled for May 4, 2026.
A senior election official said that the initiative is part of the Commission’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. “In collaboration with Chhota Bheem, voter awareness activities are being organised in Howrah district. As a widely loved and trusted character, he brings a sense of familiarity that can make voter awareness messaging more engaging and relatable, especially for families and first-time voters,” the official said.
Rajiv Chilaka, Founder and CEO, Green Gold Animation, added, “We are pleased that the EC has chosen our character for this campaign. It aligns with the brand’s broader public-interest associations across literacy, public safety and education initiatives with government and PSU institutions. The objective is to make voter awareness more visible, memorable and participative, while encouraging a positive civic spirit.”
Chhota Bheem, one of India’s most recognised animated characters, has previously featured in public awareness campaigns across regions—signalling a growing trend of using entertainment-led storytelling to deliver civic messages. Similar efforts, including those by Western Railways, have shown that creative, multi-platform outreach can effectively connect with diverse audiences.
