Prasar Bharati’s flagship OTT platform WAVES and companion initiative MyWAVES have crossed 1.2 crore registered users and 1.5 crore downloads, marking a significant expansion of the public broadcaster’s digital footprint.
Launched in November 2024 at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, the digital ecosystem now offers more than 24,000 titles and 15,000 hours of content, spanning live television, radio, education, archival programming and e-commerce. Available through mobile applications, web portals and connected smart TVs, WAVES now reaches audiences in more than 130 countries and over 26 languages. The platform brings together more than 140 live television channels, including all 35 Doordarshan satellite networks, along with 220 Akashvani radio streams, e-books, digital magazines and interactive games. It also integrates shopping features through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
The platform combines streaming with public-service media offerings, including PM eVidya educational broadcasts, cultural archives, regional films and citizen-led content creation hubs. This gives Prasar Bharati a digital route to bring its existing television, radio and archival content to audiences beyond traditional scheduled broadcasts.
The expansion also enables the public broadcaster to take its historical audio-visual archives to younger audiences while delivering localised and multilingual programming to Indian audiences and the global Indian diaspora.
