Roblox has appointed Sunil Rao as Managing Director for India.
Rao will join the company in May and will serve as its senior-most representative in the country, leading local strategy execution, partnerships and ecosystem development while aligning India-specific priorities with global operations.
A key focus of his role will be to support the platform’s developer and creator ecosystem in India, enabling local studios to leverage Roblox’s tools for scaling and monetisation. Globally, the platform’s creator community earned over $1.5 billion in 2025.
The company stated that India represents a significant growth opportunity, given its large youth population and expanding digital ecosystem.
Commenting on his new role as Managing Director, Roblox India, Rao said, “Roblox is at the forefront of enabling a new generation of creators and games. India’s scale, creativity, and entrepreneurial energy present a massive opportunity. I’m excited to build a vibrant and inclusive ecosystem that empowers developers and creators across the country. Ensuring child safety and aligning closely with India’s regulatory framework will be among my top priorities, as we focus on building a trusted platform that enables responsible and sustainable growth in the region.”
Zhen Fang, VP of International at Roblox, said: "India is an important market for us globally and one with tremendous potential in terms of creator talent. Sunil brings deep expertise in building operations across diverse markets, and his passion for community-centric platforms makes him the ideal leader to drive our next chapter of growth in the country."
Prior to this role, Rao was part of the leadership team at Amazon Web Services, where he led strategy and corporate business development across the Asia-Pacific and Japan region. He has also worked with Lightspeed Venture Partners, and earlier held roles at Symbian, Nokia and Google, contributing to the development of mobile and internet ecosystems.
The appointment signals the company’s intent to deepen its engagement in India by building a stronger local presence and supporting long-term ecosystem growth.
