Snap Inc. has introduced SPECS Intelligence, an anticipatory AI service designed to work across iPhone, Mac and SPECS augmented reality (AR) glasses. The service is built to understand users’ goals, priorities, relationships and routines from the apps and tools they choose to connect, and use that context to surface relevant information without requiring a prompt.
SPECS Intelligence is designed to anticipate situations where assistance may be useful. For instance, ahead of a meeting, it can surface decisions to make, questions to ask and information to remember. For travel, it can bring together flight, hotel and dinner plans while flagging a work deadline that falls during the trip.
The service also includes Corners, which organise areas of users’ lives such as work and family, and Goals, which help users set and track objectives. With SPECS AR glasses, this personal context can also be brought into the physical world, allowing users to access relevant travel details, reservations and reminders through the glasses.
“Computers should fit into our lives, not the other way around. SPECS Intelligence is designed to help you spend less time managing your life and more time living it.” said Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snap Inc.
On privacy, Snap said users decide which accounts and information SPECS Intelligence can access. The company said Snap personnel cannot view or access personal content used with the service, while content from connected accounts will not be used to train or fine-tune Snap’s AI models or serve personalised ads. The service uses on-device processing alongside secure cloud infrastructure.
The full early-access experience will initially be available exclusively through the SPECS Mac app and will be invitation-only. Users can join the waitlist through the SPECS website or app.
A preview is also available on iOS in the US for users aged 18 and above, without an invitation. By connecting a Google account, users can access insights based on their Gmail and Google Calendar activity, although the mobile preview does not include the broader service’s anticipatory suggestions or actions.
