Tinder announces product updates, safety tools and AI features at 'Tinder Sparks' keynote

Tinder announced a series of updates to its platform during its first product keynote, 'Tinder Sparks 2026: Start Something New.' The announcements include changes across product features, safety tools, artificial intelligence-based matching and new formats aimed at expanding how users interact on the app.

The company said the updates reflect an evolution of the platform as it explores new ways for users to connect. The changes include redesigned matching modes, experiments with real-world and virtual events, expanded trust and safety infrastructure and AI-driven recommendation systems intended to personalise matches.

Among the product updates announced were new and redesigned Modes, a feature that allows users to match based on specific interests. Music Mode, first introduced in 2021, has been redesigned to prioritise profiles with similar music tastes and is integrated with Spotify. Tinder also introduced Astrology Mode, which allows users to add their zodiac details, including Sun, Moon and Rising signs, to explore compatibility insights with potential matches.

The company also announced pilots aimed at connecting online interactions with offline experiences. A new Events feature is being tested in Los Angeles, allowing users to discover local activities and see which other users plan to attend. Tinder also plans to introduce video speed dating, a scheduled virtual event where photo-verified users can participate in short video conversations with multiple matches.

Alongside new social formats, Tinder announced upgrades to its trust and safety tools. The company said it has introduced more than 20 safety features globally over the past few years and is now expanding capabilities powered by large language models. The “Are You Sure?” feature, which prompts users to reconsider potentially harmful messages before sending them, is being enhanced with improved contextual detection. “Does This Bother You?”, which identifies potentially inappropriate messages received by users, will now include an auto-blur function to hide such content.

The company also highlighted its AI-powered recommendation system, Chemistry, which generates curated matches based on user behaviour and interests. The feature, which has been tested in Australia and New Zealand, is now expanding to the United States and Canada. Additional AI tools include Camera Roll Scan, an optional feature that analyses patterns in a user’s photos to generate insights about interests and lifestyle, and Learning Mode, which adjusts recommendations based on user activity within the app.

Tinder also announced Tinder Connect, an initiative designed to allow users to link other applications to their profiles. The program will begin with partnerships with Duolingo and Beli, expanding on Tinder’s existing integration with Spotify.

In addition to feature updates, Tinder said it is redesigning parts of the app interface and profile experience. Planned changes include full-screen profile photos, updated visual design elements and additional profile features intended to highlight users’ interests and activities.

Spencer Rascoff, CEO of Match Group and Tinder, said, “With more than half our users under 30, we’re building alongside a generation that wants dating to feel more authentic, lower-pressure, and worth their time. We’re expanding the ways that people get started - from new formats and real-world experiences, to profiles that help show who you really are. We’re using AI to surface more relevant connections, and continuing to raise the bar on safety so that people feel confident taking the next step. Taken together, these changes mark the most significant evolution of our app in years and make Tinder more trusted, social, intelligent and expressive.”

He added, “Real connection happens when people feel safe, understood, and confident enough to take the first step. Our job is to make that step easier, so more people can spark something new with someone new.”
