Karan Johar appeared at the Met Gala wearing statement pieces from his brand Tyaani Jewellery, marking a moment for Indian design in a global cultural setting.
The jewellery, inspired by traditional Indian craftsmanship and royal aesthetics, formed a key element of his ensemble, which drew from visual references associated with Raja Ravi Varma’s artistic style.
The collection featured a multi-gemstone necklace incorporating emerald and ruby tones, alongside structured detailing influenced by temple architecture. Complementing this were statement rings rooted in Kundan and Jadau techniques, reflecting traditional design elements adapted for contemporary contexts.
The showcase aligns with Tyaani’s design philosophy of combining intricate craftsmanship with relatively accessible pricing, positioning fine jewellery beyond conventional notions of exclusivity.
The appearance also reflects a broader trend of Indian design narratives gaining visibility on international platforms, where fashion and jewellery are increasingly used as expressions of cultural identity.
Maheep Kapoor, associated with the brand’s design direction, said, “The Met Gala is about storytelling at scale. For me, the jewellery had to do more than complement the look—it had to carry meaning. With Tyaani, the idea has always been simple: create pieces that feel like heirlooms, but are made for today. It’s easy to design with unlimited budgets. The real challenge is to deliver that same level of craft, detail, and impact at a price point that is far more accessible—we take that challenge head on, THAT IS TYAANI.”
The showcase positions the brand within a global conversation around design, heritage and accessibility in luxury.
