Kiran Mani, who served as CEO – Digital at JioStar, is set to exit the company this week. He will join OpenAI, where he will lead the company’s expansion efforts across the Asia-Pacific region.
Mani will assume the role of Managing Director for Asia-Pacific in June and will operate from Singapore. In his new position, he will report to Jason Kwon, OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer.
In a recent post on LinkedIn, Mani reflected on his journey at JioStar. “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be part of the founding team of JioHotstar. Words cannot do justice to the privilege—and the fun—of leading this rocketship over the last few years,” he wrote.
Mani further noted that Uday Shankar and Akash Ambani had significantly influenced his perspective on ambition and leadership.
With more than 20 years of experience in technology and digital ecosystems, Mani brings deep industry expertise to the role. Before joining JioStar, he spent 13 years at Google, and previously worked with Microsoft and IBM.
His appointment is expected to be instrumental in driving OpenAI’s regional strategy.
