Medanta Hospital Gurgaon has launched a short awareness film titled Banno Ki Rasm to promote breast cancer awareness and encourage early detection. The film has received over 8 million views across social media platforms since its release.
Produced by Medanta – The Medicity as part of its “Jaanta Hai Medanta” initiative, the 2-minute 28-second video presents the self-breast examination as a routine passed down through generations. The film urges adult women to adopt self-checks as a regular monthly practice.
Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman & Managing Director, Medanta, said, “Women are the backbone of a progressive society, balancing personal and professional responsibilities while making critical life decisions. Through this film, Medanta reaffirms its commitment to empowering women by addressing this key health concern and doing away with the stigma around it.”
According to global health data, breast cancer accounts for one in four cancers among women. In 2022, it led to an estimated 6.7 lakh deaths worldwide, with India among the most affected countries.
Despite its prevalence, breast cancer often goes undiagnosed in early stages due to stigma, lack of awareness, and limited screening. Banno Ki Rasm aims to address these challenges by encouraging conversations around breast health and promoting regular self-examinations.
Dr Kanchan Kaur, Senior Director, Breast Cancer at Medanta – The Medicity, said, “Regular screening and self-checks for breast cancer are vital because early detection greatly improves treatment outcomes and survival rates. Simple practices such as being aware of changes in the breast, performing self-examinations, and attending recommended mammograms can make a significant difference in catching the disease before it spreads.”
The ‘Jaanta Hai Medanta’ initiative focuses on awareness and patient engagement. Following the campaign on breast cancer, Medanta plans to highlight other forms of cancer in future phases.
