Noel Tata is set to step down as chairman of Trent, according to media reports, marking the end of an association with the Tata Group retailer that spans nearly three decades.
Addressing shareholders at Trent’s 47th Annual General Meeting on 23 June, Tata reportedly indicated that it would be his final AGM in the role. The business leader is due to turn 70 later this year.
Tata joined Trent’s board in 1998, shortly after the company was established under the leadership of his mother, Simone Tata, following the sale of Lakmé. In June 1999, he was appointed the company’s first Managing Director and went on to play a key role in building Trent into one of India’s leading retail businesses.
His departure marks a significant leadership transition for the retailer, which has grown substantially under his stewardship through brands and formats across the fashion and lifestyle segments.
