Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited (Sun Pharma), one of India’s largest pharmaceutical companies, has launched an initiative through its pain relief brand, Volini. During this year’s Pandharpur Wari, one of Maharashtra’s oldest and most significant spiritual pilgrimages, Volini introduced the Volini Uparna, a version of the traditional cloth adapted for practical use during the journey.
Each year, more than 3 million Warkaris walk over 250 kilometres during a 21-day journey to the temple town of Pandharpur in Maharashtra. The Uparna, worn over the shoulder, is a common sight along the route and symbolises comfort, resilience, and faith. This year, Volini’s version included a specially designed sleeve to hold Volini Gel, allowing pilgrims quick access to pain relief for joints and muscles during the walk.

Distribution took place at Pirachi Kuroli, an important stop along the Wari route. Local residents assisted a dedicated team in handing over the Uparnas to pilgrims.
The company has previously supported Warkaris through on-ground pain relief camps. This year’s effort extends that support by adapting a traditional item into a functional aid for participants in the pilgrimage. The Volini Uparna combines cultural symbolism with a practical feature intended to help reduce physical strain during the long journey.
