Meta has announced plans to roll out ‘Incognito Chat’ for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app in the coming months, introducing a private mode for AI conversations aimed at users seeking greater confidentiality.
Built on WhatsApp’s Private Processing technology, the feature is designed to enable temporary conversations with Meta AI that cannot be accessed by anyone, including Meta itself. The company said the tool is intended for discussions involving sensitive topics such as health, finances, or career-related matters.
According to Meta, messages exchanged during an Incognito Chat will be processed in a secure environment, will not be stored, and will disappear automatically once the conversation ends. The company added that, unlike some existing “incognito-style” AI chat modes offered by other platforms, neither incoming prompts nor outgoing responses will be visible to Meta.
Meta also confirmed that it plans to introduce a ‘Side Chat’ feature on WhatsApp over the coming months. Powered by the same Private Processing technology, the feature will allow users to access AI assistance within ongoing chats without interrupting the main conversation.
