DON'T MISS THE GAME

Sunday is my favourite day of the week because it takes me back to one of the simple joys of life – playing cricket with friends. Sunday to me is an early morning game of cricket, followed by a cup of filter coffee and masala dosa from a nearby darshini. The only difference now is that it has moved from gully cricket to box cricket. Things might have changed a lot from then to now, we all grew up and tried our hand at this whole ‘adulting’ thing, but two things have remained constant for me. The game of cricket on Sunday mornings, and the feeling of victory. I have to say, I do love winning!

I try to break the mould and do something different in a world where Sundays are associated with sleeping in and chilling. It helps that I have a bunch of friends who love to play cricket at the break of dawn. This is my favourite way of getting some ‘me time,’ but in fact, it becomes more like ‘us time.’ Irrespective of which part of the country I am in, I make an effort to be back in Bangalore on Sundays, and play those two hours of competitive cricket.

This is how I approach other aspects of my life too – consistently going at something till I get a breakthrough. It’s rightly said that when you love a good sport, it’s so easy to compare it with life. It is true, isn’t it? I do see a shift in the way I play, in my fitness and in my hunger to win as every Sunday progresses.

That got me thinking about consistency in the way I work too. You may win or lose the toss, or things might just not go your way sometimes. But shouldn’t the spotlight be on keeping at it – both in sports and in life? Showing up without excuses can probably take us so much farther than we had initially expected.
Like they say – ‘(consistent) catches win you matches!’
