‘It’s more about conversations than numbers’: Mohit Jain on why Miraggio chose Friends

In a chat with IMPACT, Miraggio’s Founder-CEO discusses how fashion brands are using cultural markers to spark conversations and not just sales

‘It’s more about conversations than numbers’: Mohit Jain on why Miraggio chose Friends

For Miraggio, the Friends collaboration was never just about putting a popular sitcom on handbags. It was about tapping into an emotion that cuts across generations.

“Nostalgia was a big trend, and we wanted to bring it back in our own Miraggio way,” says Mohit Jain, Founder & CEO, Miraggio. “Friends bridges the gap between millennials and Gen Z. It’s a comfort watch that people connect with, so it became the perfect choice.”

Rather than chasing short-term sales, the brand positioned the collection as a limited-edition cultural moment designed to strengthen relevance and spark conversations. “It was about building cultural relevance. Friends is something people instantly connect with.”

Jain believes the growing popularity of licensed collaborations across fashion and lifestyle stems from their ability to offer consumers something exclusive. When executed thoughtfully, they become collectibles rather than just merchandise.

“People like owning something that feels rare,” he explains. “If there are only a few hundred pieces, it becomes more than a product. It becomes a memory.”

Unlike many brands that try to stretch collaborations over months, Miraggio deliberately kept the collection limited. “The objective was never to sustain it forever. It was to create buzz, build an emotional connection, and give customers a nostalgic memory.”

That philosophy also shapes how the brand measures success. While selling out quickly remains an internal target, Jain says engagement matters just as much.

“The biggest KPI is the reaction. The smiles, the conversations and the unboxing happiness. That’s what we’re trying to create.” Social media continues to be Miraggio’s biggest marketing channel, but the brand is widening its media mix with platforms such as Reddit and Pinterest while also investing in fashion, business and lifestyle media to reach different audiences.

Behind the marketing, product remains the brand’s biggest investment. Miraggio launched around 700 SKUs last year, narrowing thousands of prototypes into a final collection through an extensive design process.

Looking ahead, the company is doubling down on offline retail. After opening its first store, more outlets are set to follow in quick succession, while new categories are also on the horizon. For now, however, Jain says the focus remains on strengthening Miraggio’s leadership in handbags before expanding further.
