CaratLane, a TATA product, has launched a new jewellery collection inspired by the Chandrakor, the iconic crescent moon bindi associated with Maharashtrian heritage.
The collection translates the traditional crescent motif into contemporary fine jewellery, aiming to offer consumers a modern way to celebrate their cultural roots. The designs draw on the motif’s significance as a symbol of Maratha identity, strength and pride.
Speaking on the launch, Saumen Bhaumik, MD, CaratLane, remarked, “The Chandrakor motif holds a special place in Maharashtra’s cultural heritage, representing a deep sense of identity, pride and tradition. As Maharashtra comes alive in celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, this felt like a meaningful moment to honour a symbol so deeply woven into the state’s cultural identity. With this collection, we wanted to reimagine this cherished symbol through contemporary jewellery, allowing people to appreciate and celebrate their heritage in a way that feels personal, elegant and relevant to everyday life.”
The launch is supported by a campaign film featuring dancer and actor Mukti Mohan. The film showcases Mohan wearing the Chandrakor-inspired pieces before moving into a Maharashtrian celebration featuring dhol-tasha beats and the collection.
The jewellery is currently available through select CaratLane stores and its online platform. With the collection, the brand continues to focus on making fine jewellery more versatile and relevant to contemporary consumers while drawing on cultural motifs.
