As India gears up for Flipkart’s Big Billion Days, the brand is taking the shopping festival to the streets of Kolkata with ‘Kothaye Jaabe Dada?’, turning a familiar local abbreviation into a festive cue.
The activation draws on BBD Bagh, formerly known as Dalhousie Square, and the many city buses that travel to or through the busy Kolkata hub. Flipkart has brought its Big Billion Days messaging onto select buses and their tickets, connecting a familiar part of the daily commute with the shopping event.
Bus tickets become unexpected discovery points, carrying Big Billion Days offers and QR codes that passengers can scan to explore the sale. The activation also brings Flipkart’s ‘Luck Badal Sakta Hai, Yahan Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’ proposition to the city’s streets.
The idea extends into a campaign film centred on a Kolkata bus conductor and his long association with the BBD Bagh route. It follows him from his first day on the bus to years of calling out “BBD! BBD!” across the city.
The familiar call takes on a new meaning when Big Billion Days arrives. What was once simply a destination becomes a cue for festive offers, with offer-led bus tickets, passenger interactions and route-style announcements turning an everyday commute into a Big Billion Days experience.
By building the activation around a phrase and place already embedded in Kolkata’s daily life, Flipkart gives its festive campaign a distinctly local twist.
