This Independence Day, Luv My India has partnered with No Gaali Please to launch ‘Gaali Se Azaadi’, a new merchandise collection urging Indians to become independent of something else this year: abusive language.
As India celebrates 79 years of Independence, the campaign by Luv My India, India’s first nationalist lifestyle brand, and No Gaali Please, a citizens’ movement advocating respectful public discourse, is built on a simple belief: freedom of expression becomes stronger when our ideas are stronger than our insults.
At a time when public conversations increasingly shape society, the two organisations believe disagreement is essential to democracy—but abuse should never become its default language. Every citizen has the right to question, disagree, criticise and debate. “We are not asking people to lower their voice. We are simply asking India to raise the standard of the conversation. Passion is welcome. Abuse shouldn’t be,” says Vandana Sethhi, Founder, Luv My India.
Political freedom gave India a voice. Today, Luv My India believes the country has an opportunity to strengthen that voice further—not by speaking less, but by speaking better. Real freedom isn’t the freedom to abuse; it is the confidence to express ourselves without needing abuse. If we can disagree with dignity, we strengthen both our democracy and our society.
Across India’s many languages exists an extraordinary vocabulary of humour, wit, satire, debate and persuasion. The movement encourages citizens to rediscover that richness instead of allowing abusive language to dominate public conversations.
The message is simple: express freely, challenge ideas and debate fearlessly—but don’t let gaalis become your strongest argument.
