N Chandrasekaran has stepped down as Chairman of Tata Sons and is understood to have decided against seeking reappointment, according to reports.
Chandrasekaran joined the board of Tata Sons in October 2016 and was appointed Chairman in January 2017. His current term is due to end in February 2027.
In October 2025, Tata Trusts approved a third five-year executive term for Chandrasekaran as Chairman. The decision marked a departure from the Tata Group’s retirement policy.
Tata Sons is scheduled to hold its board meeting on August 18, where developments concerning the leadership of the holding company are expected to be discussed.
