WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to schedule both individual and group calls. The update includes the ability to set a specific date and time for calls, similar to scheduling tools found on professional meeting platforms. Invitations can be sent to individuals or entire groups, with participants receiving reminders before the call begins.
The messaging platform has also added features aimed at improving group call functionality. A raise hand option has been introduced, enabling users to indicate their wish to speak without interrupting. Additionally, emoji reactions allow participants to respond during calls without speaking.
WhatsApp has redesigned its Calls tab to support the new scheduling tool. The updated tab displays a list of scheduled calls along with the names of attendees. Users can share direct invite links, and call organisers are notified when someone joins using those links. End-to-end encryption remains in place for all calls.
The process to schedule a call involves selecting a contact or group, accessing the Calls page, tapping the Schedule Call option, and entering the call type, date, and time. Automated reminders are sent to participants ahead of the call.
With these updates, WhatsApp aims to enhance its usability for both personal and work-related communication.
