Atul Hegde, Founder and Chairman of YAAP Digital, passed away on Tuesday morning following a heart attack. He was a widely respected entrepreneur and one of the early pioneers of India’s digital marketing industry.
Hegde breathed his last at around 8 am, leaving behind a legacy that spans advertising, digital transformation, entrepreneurship and technology-led innovation.
Over a career of more than two decades, Hegde established himself as a leading voice in India’s marketing ecosystem. He founded YAAP and grew it into an integrated digital marketing and technology company with operations across India and international markets. Under his leadership, the company expanded its capabilities across content, influencer marketing, digital media, data and technology-driven marketing solutions.
Beyond YAAP, Hegde was an active participant in India’s startup ecosystem. Through Rainmaker Ventures, which he co-founded, he invested in and mentored early-stage companies, reflecting his long-standing commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation.
Before launching YAAP, Hegde built extensive experience across branding, communications and digital marketing, laying the foundation for what would become one of India's prominent independent digital agency networks.
In recent years, he had been leading YAAP through a phase of expansion, with a focus on artificial intelligence, proprietary technology, strategic acquisitions and international growth. He had spoken about building a homegrown, full-stack, technology-powered agency network that brought together creativity, content, data and technology to meet the evolving needs of brands.
Known for his forward-looking views on digital culture, branding and consumer behaviour, Hegde was also recognised for his passion for sneakers and contemporary culture, interests that became part of his distinctive identity.
His passing is a significant loss to India’s advertising, marketing and startup ecosystem. He will be remembered as an entrepreneur who helped shape the country’s digital marketing landscape and championed the role of technology in building the future of communications.
