Groq, a California-based AI chip company, has signed a non-exclusive licence with Nvidia to allow the latter to utilise Groq’s inference technology. The arrangement is aimed at accelerating access to efficient, high-speed AI processing technology, especially for real-time model use cases where low latency and cost-effective performance matter.
Under the terms of the agreement, Groq’s founder Jonathan Ross, president Sunny Madra, and several other team members are set to join Nvidia to aid in the advancement and deployment of the licensed technology. The move brings key engineering talent into Nvidia’s fold while enabling the tech giant to scale Groq’s inference solutions more broadly.
Despite the transfer of personnel and technology rights, Groq will continue operating as a standalone entity. Simon Edwards has stepped in as the company’s new chief executive officer, ensuring continuity for Groq’s operations. Additionally, GroqCloud—its cloud service platform will remain active and unaffected by the agreement.
