Meta has introduced Facebook Verified, a free verification badge designed to help users identify genuine people on the platform as AI-generated profiles and impersonation become increasingly common. The feature uses a one-time selfie verification process to confirm a user's identity, with the badge appearing across Facebook's most interaction-heavy surfaces.
Available to eligible users aged 18 and above, Facebook Verified requires users to record a short video selfie, which Meta matches against existing profile photos. Accounts must also meet the platform's trust and safety standards, including compliance with policies on fraud, scams and deceptive behaviour. The feature is not available for Pages or ProMode accounts.
Once verified, the badge will appear on Facebook Marketplace, Dating, Groups and user profiles, with Feed posts set to be included in a later phase. The verification is free, requires no subscription and remains linked to the account after the one-time process is completed.
Meta clarified that the badge confirms only that an account belongs to a real person who has completed the verification process. It does not represent an endorsement of the user or guarantee their trustworthiness, with all verified accounts continuing to be governed by the platform's Community Standards and Commerce Policies.
Facebook Verified is being introduced in phases, starting with select markets before expanding globally.
