In a bid to put fans at the centre of their universe, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in collaboration with VIDA, powered by HERO, organised a box cricket tournament — VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket — between 19 and 21 February in Kolkata.
The three-day tournament, built around speed, skill, and community pride witnessed the coming together of amateur players, fan clubs, and local heroes. The initiative gifted lovers of the sport with an opportunity to compete inside a premium professional ecosystem. The format had 32 teams, each comprising 10 players, battle it out across group stages and knockouts. Joy Game Changers emerged as the inaugural champions of the tournament with Knights Dé Xtreme securing the runners-up spot.
One of the participating teams also featured content creators such as Neel Bhattacharya, DaSoham, Rahul Dey, Saikat Dey, and Nirit Datta. The addition of these faces to on-ground cricket culture blurred the line between sport, entertainment, and fandom.
What set the event apart was its reimagined format. While on one hand, VIDA-branded bonus targets rewarded precision, on the other, integrations around the USPs of the company — such as their removable batteries — turned innovation into tactical advantage. The intensity peaked with the VIDA Electric Over, where every run was doubled and batters could not be dismissed, leading to shifts in momentum. The Impact Player rule allowed teams to unleash a game-changer at a decisive moment, maintaining the unpredictability of the matches.
Speaking on the execution of the series, Binda Dey, Group Chief Marketing Officer, Knight Riders Sports, said, “Cricket has always lived in the heart of Kolkata. With VIDA Knights Electrifying Box Cricket, we took the game back to the fans in a format that’s fast, accessible, and powered by participation. We’re proud to partner with VIDA, a brand that shares our belief in creating experiences that fans don’t just watch, but truly live.”
Commenting on the partnership, Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer, Emerging Mobility Business Unit, Hero MotoCorp, said, “Our association with KKR is rooted in the confidence, resilience, and aspiration that define a new India. We are driven by the idea of making electric mobility exciting, accessible, and relevant to everyday India — much like how KKR brings people together through cricket. With the tournament, we are bringing cricket’s unmatched passion and pulse to the streets.”
